Writing is a highly challenging task that not many people can do with success. There are times when you feel too bored and doing something like writing would be the last thing that you want. In other cases, you are just too stressed out to put your thoughts or ideas on piece of paper.
Remember, writing, when your mind is filled with random thoughts, will not create something interesting or worth reading. Apart from that stress is also one of the main killers of creativity and imagination. In such situation, always relax your mind and take a deep breath to wipe all the worries out of your mind.
Take a look at the following 8 tips that will help you overcome the writer’s block and progress with the writing task more constructively.
1. Choose Something Interesting To Write On
Get rid of the writer’s block by picking an interesting topic. Choose something that you really connect with and have the passion to read and write about. After you have chosen a good topic, you need to get it down on a paper as if you are discussing it with someone. After sometime, you can get back to it and see what changes are required.

2. Always Write Freely
At times, it is the apathy and lack of interest that keep us away from writing. Putting your inner thoughts onto a paper will give the required boost to write. Write whatever comes to your mind for 3-5 minutes without bothering about the grammatical issues. This will allow you to bring in the various ideas from your sub-conscious mind into the paper and give a kick to your imagination, ultimately, allowing you to overcome the writing block.
3. Just Write From Any Point
While you may have problems introducing your topic, you can start with the body part. If you are finding it hard to start your writing at the beginning, you can do it from the middle or even the end. The point is you just need to start your writing, regardless of where you start from.
4. Purge the Urge to Procrastinate
Many times we tend to procrastinate the writing task because our mind is engaged in other distracting activities. Like if we are standing in front of a computer screen, we tend to interrupt our focus with the net or play the iPod for some music. So unless you disconnect yourself from these distractions, you will face procrastination that will only cause you writer’s block.
5. Divide Your Work
Never make a mistake of writing in one go. Divide your work in different sessions of writing (or drafts) that you can develop with time. Writing for longer time leads to mental and physical stress that in turn causes writer’s block. Taking small breaks between the different sessions allows you to get your thoughts flowing and completing your work on time. Take some nap in between the writing session to re-energize your energy levels.
6. Never Go beyond Your Limits with Too Much Writing
Do not stretch yourself too much above your limit as this will ultimately exhaust you. Setting unrealistic goals for writing task only makes you feeling tired and stressed, causing you mental block in the end. Assign yourself the time that you really think is achievable.
7. Remove All Your Sources of Distractions
Identify the causes of your mental block. Is it the commotion outside your room or your utter apathy in the subject that is keeping you away from writing productively? Writing demands focus and engagement. So if your mind is preoccupied with obtrusive thoughts, it is highly unlikely that you can progress with your writing task.
8. Replenish Your Energy Levels
Eat some food in between the writing task so that you recharge your mind and body. Just stand up and cook anything that can attract your sense of appetite and satisfy your taste buds, such as a hot coffee or pizza. Eating nutrients provides you with the necessary energy for your brain.
