- B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)
M.B.B.S is the most popular choice among medical aspirants. Duration of this course is 5.5 years including 1 year of internship. Students can get admission to M.B.B.S course in various medical colleges in India through centralized counselling procedure based on rank and score in the medical entrance examinations. There is no provision for direct admission in this course. In 2018, the total number of seats available in the M.B.B.S course through NEET is approximately 30,000.

The art and science of diagnosis and prevention of ailments related to the human oral cavity and its associated structures like teeth and gums are known as Dentistry. This undergraduate degree is needed to be a qualified dentist and is the second favorite course among students after they qualify NEET. It is a 5 years course including 1 year of internship. In the course of study, students learn about various Dental Surgery Procedures, Dental materials, Dental Anatomy and Oral histology, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Radiology, Pedodontics and more.
Students can practice independently as a Dentist or can pursue higher studies in the field after graduating. They can also choose to do research work for companies providing dental medicines and surgical equipment.
- Paramedical Courses
Students unable to get admission to M.B.B.S and B.D.S courses with their NEET score, can apply for Paramedical Courses. From 2018, admissions to Paramedical Courses in various colleges will be done through NEET. The eligibility criteria is the same as that of M.B.B.S and B.D.S courses.
- B.H.M.S (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery)
Homoeopathy is an alternative form of medicine and is preferred by many for treating long-term ailments. B.H.M.S is the bachelor’s degree in Homeopathic Education in India and is overseen by the National Institute of Homeopathy. The duration of this course is 5.5 years including 1 year of internship. NEET scores are accepted for admission to this course.
Homeopathy Education in the country is controlled by the Central Council of Homeopathy, which also prepares the curriculum for B.H.M.S. Institutions granting such degrees have to apply to the council first. The council also keeps the record of all homoeopaths.
Homoeopathy has gained considerable popularity both in India and abroad. So this can be considered as a very good career choice. Students can pursue higher studies or practice independently after graduating. They can also pursue research or work as a pharmacist in companies supplying homoeopathic medicines.
- B.A.M.S (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery)
B.A.M.S course consists of detailed medical knowledge of Ayurveda and includes subjects like Rachana Sharira, Kriya Sharira, Dravyuaguna, Svasthavritta and Yoga. The students also learn about the principles of medicines, pathology and diagnostic procedures, preventive medicines, pharmacology, toxicology, forensic medicine, principles of surgery etc. The duration of this course is 5.5 years including 1 year of internship.
However, the prospect of this career path is limited to India. But research and development in this field has increased in the last few years and is a preferred choice of treatment by many people who do not trust western medical treatment procedures. So students choosing this option can work for pharmaceutical companies that manufacture Ayurveda medicines or can pursue research or higher studies in this field.
- B.Pharma (Bachelor of Pharmacy)
The B.Pharma course concentrates on the composition and chemistry of medicines along with manufacturing knowledge and prescription of various medicinal drugs. Duration for B.Pharma course is 4years. Students learn about prescribed dosage of medicines and their outcomes, pharmaceutical engineering and medicinal chemistry.
The degree is required to practice as a pharmacist in the country and abroad so that they can guide the patients about the dosage and effect of the prescribed medicines.
Students opting for this course can work independently as a pharmacist and have their own store. They can also work as an in-house pharmacist in various hospitals and government institutions or can pursue research work in this field.

- B.M.L.T (Bachelor of Medical Lab Technicians)
B.M.L.T has course duration of 4 years including 1 year of internship and aims at providing detailed knowledge and essential skills to the students for performing regular or complicated laboratory diagnostic procedures. The program also educates about recent improvements in laboratory management, instrumentations etc.
After completion of the course, graduates can work as a laboratory technologist at hospitals and other medical institutes like Pharmaceutical Laboratories and Public health Laboratories. They can also work in different positions in Research & Development departments of various labs or as Laboratory Supervisors or consultant to Laboratory Medicine Industry, Quality Assurance Companies, Sales & Marketing. People interested in teaching can also join as faculties in Laboratory Medicine Graduate Programs.
The above-mentioned career options are available to candidates eligible for NEET. The minimum age to be eligible for the M.B.B.S course is 17 years. Candidate should have Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) in 10+2 examination along with 50% aggregate percentage (for general candidates) and 40% aggregate percentage (for SC/ST/OBC candidates). Candidates must qualify the declared cut off for NEET. Seat allotment will be on the basis of score obtained by them and further availability of seats.
